Cowboy.com - The Western Connection

Winter is almost officialy here in the northern hemisphere, is your barn ready?

Here is a simple check list to see if you have everything ready:

  • Water pipes wrapped
  • Drafty holes patched
  • Trenches dug to drain water away from barn and paddock areas
  • Horse blankets in good repair and ready to use if needed

These are just a few things to keep in mind for. Keep in mind you can still work your horse and ride in cold weather just bundle up and wear gloves.

Do you decorate your home with a "horsey" flair? If you do, welcome to the horse life.

The Horse owner, a different way of life

If you are a horse owner you realize that you have a certain type of lifestyle, mostly a life that involves your horse every day. On this section of the Kingdom of Horses we will cover what it means to live with horses and how to deal with other family members that may or may not be involved with horses too.

Most of us have a partner or family member that does not have all the same interests as we do, that is what makes our lives interesting. Add horses to that mix and sometimes that "interesting" part gets nasty. I can count at least 5 divorces that involved horses as one of the main issues for the divorce. Almost all involved a horse lover or owner married to someone that either did not like or even care about horses. If horses are part of your life now and you are not involved with anyone speciall right now then I highly suggest you look for a future partner that also loves and enjoys horses. You also have to be careful because many people see horse owners as "rich" and will pretend to like horses just to see what they can get from you.  If you are actively looking for someone special and can't find anyone at the local horse show (a great place to look) or the rodeo (another place to check out). then check out one of the many online dating sites. Remember to be safe if you find someone this way, have a background check done on the person you are considering and a credit check on them too. Credit checks are good to have to find out if they can handle money (another big factor in a marriage or partnership) or are looking for a sugar daddy or momma.

Everyone likes to hear about a "happy ever after ending"

About a year ago Equestrain Cupid contacted this web site to put an ad banner on it. I kept putting it off and finally gave in. A few weeks ago I got this really nice email thanking me for advertising that service. It seems that a horse owner needed that service! Here is the email:

Thanks for putting an ad on your site that seemed to be just for me. My wife passed away about 4 years ago and our little ranch was so lonely without her. I seriously thought about selling the place and finding homes for all the animals but my grown daughter convinced me not to. All the women that I had met either saw me as a "sugar Daddy" which I am NOT, or some country hick with lots of animals. None of them were interested in my horses because they were too many flies or the pee smelled too strong. If I happen to meet another horse owner they were either married or too bossy and set in their ways to be interested in a romance. I was not getting anywhere with dating. Then one Friday night I was surfing the internet and found your site. It was then I saw the banner for Equestrain Cupid. I clicked on it and my life has changed. I met a woman that rides English and competes - I trained Hunter/Jumpers when I first met my wife. She lost her husband a few years ago too and the people she was meeting were also looking for a "free ride" so to speak. It is a shame that non-horse owners think of horse owners as "rich". I think that fact alone has ruined many peoples' chances for finding a good match with fellow horse owners. After several "horsey" dates we are now engaged. Thanks again.  - Jon N, Virgina
